MEMC (Maths and Languages Mastery Competition) stands as a dynamic platform designed to empower students in applying and reinforcing acquired knowledge. It serves as a testing ground where students can actively engage with and apply the skills they've acquired in their studies.

I - Awards and Prizes

Monthly Challenges

For 3rd to 6th Monthly Challenge:
5 winners x 6 years: e-Certificate + RM20 TnG e-wallet credit
Participants who obtain more than 250 or above will get the Gold Level e-certificate.
Participants who obtain more than 200 or above will get the Silver Level e-certificate.
Participants who obtain more than 100 or above will get the Bronze Level e-certificate.

Qualifying Round

18 top performing contestants in each category will be qualified to the Grand Final.
Subject distinction award: Certificate for contestants who obtain more than 90 points in a subject.

Grand Final

For each year, per area,
1st Place: Trophy + Certificate + RM200 TnG e-wallet credit
2nd Place: Trophy + Certificate + RM100 TnG e-wallet credit
3rd Place: Trophy + Certificate + RM50 TnG e-wallet credit
5 Gold winners: Medal + Certificate
5 Silver winners: Medal + Certificate
5 Bronze winners: Medal + Certificate

School Award

The school with the most finalists will win a cash prize of RM1000 for the PIBG.

 

II - How to join?

All students who study in the primary schools, either government of private, can participate in the MEMC24 (Mathematics & Languages Mastery Competition).

 

There are 6 categories:

Age 7 - Students born between 6th Jan 2017 to 5th Jan 2018

Age 8 - Students born between 6th Jan 2016 to 5th Jan 2017

Age 9 - Students born between 6th Jan 2015 to 5th Jan 2016

Age 10 - Students born between 6th Jan 2014 to 5th Jan 2015

Age 11 - Students born between 6th Jan 2013 to 5th Jan 2014

Age 12 - Students born between 6th Jan 2012 to 5th Jan 2013

 

It is free to join the competition, including Monthly Challenges, the Qualifying Round and the *Grand Final.

*Only the 18 top contestants in each year will be invited to the Grand Final.

Yes. MEMC were approved by the Ministry of Education. All previous MEMC participants were awarded with PAJSK scores.

 

III - Competition Date, Time and Venue

Practice Modules will be opened until 31 December 2024.

The questions for Practice Module will be updated monthly to tally with the school syllabus. Practicing with the Practice Module will help students in mastering the school syllabus greatly.

The competition is highly competitive. The more practice, the higher chance a contestant will win the competition.

The Practice Modules can be accessed with a one-time enrollment fee of RM30.

 

There are 6 Monthly Challenges to serve as the progress checks for students. Joining is free and not compulsory.

Round 1: 28 April 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Round 2: 26 May 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Round 3: 30 June 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Round 4: 28 July 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Round 5: 3 November 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Round 6: 1 December 2024 (Sunday), 9:00AM to 9:00PM

Contestants must login and complete the test within the time frame.

 

To qualified to the Grand Final, joining the Qualifying Round is compulsory. Joining is free. 18 contestants per year per area will be qualified to the final.

IV - Scope of the Competition

Monthly Challenge

Online - There will be 100 Mathematics questions, 100 English questions and 100 Bahasa Melayu questions. Participants will have to answer all questions in 60 minutes.

Qualifying Round

Online - There will be 100 Mathematics questions, 100 English questions and 100 Bahasa Melayu questions. Participants will have to answer all questions in 60 minutes.

Grand Final

Paper Based - There will be 30 Mathematics questions, 30 English questions and 30 Bahasa Melayu questions. Participants will have to answer all questions in 50 minutes at the Grand Final venue.

 

The webcam is required to be turned on. Contestants who are found cheating will be disqualified.

 

The will be multiple choice questions and subjective questions.

 

The questions will be based on the KSSR textbooks following the age group.

Monthly Challenge 10% - 20% of the textbooks
Monthly Challenge 220% - 40% of the textbooks
Monthly Challenge 340% - 60% of the textbooks
Monthly Challenge 460 - 80% of the textbooks
Qualifying Round and Grand Final0 - 80% of the textbooks
Monthly Challenge 580% - 100% of the textbooks
Monthly Challenge 6100% of the textbooks
 

Participants who answer the most questions correctly will be the winner. If two participants answer the same number of questions correctly, whoever uses the shorter time will win.

 

All students who have completed at least 3 Monthly Challenges or the Qualifying Roud will be given the e-Certificate of Participation.

 

V - System Requirement

A computer (Windows 10+ or macOS) or tablet (Android 10+ or iOS 12+) with Chrome browser and webcam can be used to access the competition. The webcam must be on during the competition session for the anti-cheat system to operate.

VI - The Organisers

Penang Math Platform (PMP), as the name implies, is a mathematics learning centre set up primarily as part of the Penang STEM initiative, an overall synergistic ecosystem in the state to complement the current educational system (primary schools, secondary schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities) for STEM-learning. Earlier STEM Centres which were set up in Penang namely Penang Science Cluster, Tech Dome Penang, Penang Skills Development Centre and @CAT mainly focused on Science (S), Technology (T) & Engineering (E) and now PMP which focuses on Mathematics (M) fits the final component of the state’s STEM initiative.
